DJ Rap – Dark Places

DJ Rap goes back to her roots with this euphoric yet hard hitting anthem.

Drum & bass pioneer DJ Rap returns triumphantly with the latest release on her Propa imprint. The track is entitled Dark Places and it’s a worthy follow up to Run Dis Ting, her banging collaboration with Erb N Dub and Scruffizer that came out late last year. Dark Places is a proper back to your roots banger (and that’s word to Jonny L) that skips between hardcore and euphoria with consummate ease.

Rap has never shied away from melody in her music and Dark Places demonstrates this in abundance, there is a warm melodic streak that runs through the heart of this track that gives it its soul but never once does it shy away from the clear drums and bass wobbles that cements its place as a certified dance floor anthem.

The track starts off with a skippy beat before exploding with energy as the title of the track is announced in hushed tones. This is when the euphoric feeling comes fully into play with its ‘You take me higher baby’ vocals and this sets the tone for the rest of the track. The euphoric vibe is enhanced however by some more hardcore moments as Rap takes it back with some harsh bass stabs and an even bigger explosion of energy as the track reaches its conclusion and reaches prime dance floor destruction with its classic rolling bass and precise drum beats.

Dark Places is a euphoric anthem that sees DJ Rap pay tribute to not only her past but also her inspirations whilst looking to the future, which is something she has always done and hopefully, always will.
