Bristol born producer SØL releases his first EP on the mighty Kaarbanik Sound, making this the 11th outing on the label. Entitled ‘Fungi EP’, each track featured on the release is named after a mushroom.
Opening the EP with ‘Amanita’, a minimal yet heavy hitting number. SØL draws on a number of percussive instruments to create a proper tribal, stripped back, bass driven track. That recognisable ‘dubstep shuffle’ we all know and love plays its part in creating the swing that is necessary in dubstep music.
Track 2 ‘Shiitake’ (a mushroom most of us are familiar with) showcases SØL’s ability to create experimental beats without over complicating things.
The closing track ‘Parasol’ is my favourite off the EP. The use of a simple guitar riff alongside a pulsating sub bass just ticks all the boxes for me! The mix down on every single track is top notch, once again demonstrating SØL’s musically abilities are more than adequate for the job.
Fungi EP is available to buy from the Kaarbanik Sound bandcamp page.
