Drone: Interview and new release on Sector 7

We catch up with the Bristol bassweight producer as he gears up for his second release on Boofy’s Sector 7 imprint.

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space height=”25″][vc_column_text]Its been a great few years for Drone.

The man from Bristol has made waves over the last few years and become known as one of the best in the game. His undeniably heavyweight productions blur the lines between Dubstep, Grime and Drill, creating his own unique sound and have been pressed up by labels such as System, Coyote Records and Sector 7.

His next release sees a return to Sector 7 with Horror, a monster of a track which combines knee rattling basslines with unnerving cinematic sonics which wouldn’t be out of place in an Alfred Hitchcock suspense classic. Label boss Boofy provides the remix on the flip to round of the 10th release of his ever-growing imprint.

We caught up with Drone to get some insight into his productions and influences.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”25″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”4535″ img_size=”large” alignment=”center”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space height=”25″][vc_column_text]You have really made big strides in the scene in the last couple of years, can you tell us a bit about how you got started with production?

I used to play guitar a lot when I was younger. I remember when I was about 15 or 16 I got this shitty little drum machine and used to make drum loops on there so I could play guitar along to it. I think I first discovered DAW’s when I was at school, I didn’t know how they worked or what I was doing but it was something that fascinated me. The first couple of years I didn’t really know what I was doing, I just used to mess about and make loops. As I got the hang of it a bit more, I began watching tutorials and reading stuff online before realising that it was something I wanted to try and pursue.

Was there a particular producer or maybe label that inspired you to start making music?

When I was starting out I was listening to a lot of old DMZ and early dubstep stuff. Me and my friend Jake used to meet up every week and just mix for hours. We used to listen to a lot of bands and different stuff around that time too so I would say it was probably a combination of a lot of things.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”25″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text][/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”25″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]How did you get involved with Sector7?

I got chatting to Boofy and Lemz about 4/5 years ago. I used to send them tunes and then over time just became friends. They were playing a lot of my stuff out and then it just kinda went from there really.

What do you use to make your tunes?

FL Studio. I have a few synths and bits I’ve picked up over the years but mainly FL, there’s just something about it that I love.

Do you have any tips for up and coming producers?

Have fun and don’t take things too seriously.

Who would your dream collaboration be with?

Rocks Foe or Mndsgn.

Is there anything else up and coming in the pipeline?

There is some stuff in the pipeline which will all be revealed soon.

Horror / Horror (Boofy Remix) will be released 29th September and will be highly sought after so make you head over to the Sector 7 site here and secure your pre-order now.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”25″][/vc_column][/vc_row]
