With Carnival season and summertime in full swing, it’s definitely the perfect time for Sam Binga to follow up his dancehall inspired Champion EP with RiderShafique which was a big release at the tail end of last year) with its even vibrant and funkier counterpart in the Champion EP Reloaded collection of remixes that again showcase his love and passion for dancehall but in an even more energized way.
From start to finish this is an energy laden blast in the tradition of great dancehall music albeit with a UK bass vibe and showcases Bingas love for it which will justifiably be blowing speakers all throughout this long and (mostly!) hot summer with tracks like the Redders collaboration She Dun Know – Rootsman Tonic Riddim and Dem Bwoi – Check Di New Riddim with Specialist Moss and remixes from the likes of Alter Echo & E3 Taal Mala.
The original EPs tracks featured guest appearances from the UKs finest including Irah and Stush but most notably of course RiderShafique, who took control on all the tracks and made it so memorable. Shafique is one of the country’s most talented and promising lyrical firebrands and he thankfully features heavily on this Reloaded version as well showcasing his focused flow prominently once again over Bingas wild rhythms and he sounds just as at home here. Tracks like that Taal Mala remix of King & Queen and the lively Go Deh which features the brilliant Tiffanie Malvo are pure bliss.
It’s not all purely dancehall on here though as opening track Proud demonstrates the foundations of the drum & bass sound of SamBingas music with its remix courtesy of Enei which features some cracking head nodding grooves but even this contains some dancehall flavours that connect with the rest of the project with Rider Shafique and Tiffanie Malvo getting the whole party started in style, a party that refuses to stop through the whole EP.
The Champion EP Reloaded is not only a fine partner to the original EP but a brilliant release in its own merits as every track on here is pure fire, perfect to start the party and full of vitality and soul. Put it this way, the tracks in here are guaranteed to set dancehalls and dancefloors alight for a long time to come and you can’t ask for more than that!
