A little chocolate enjoyment is not too bad for you, but there are plenty of new musical arrivals which you will return to and cherish a lot more throughout the year.[/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][vc_column_text]
VARIOUS ARTISTS – LIMINAL LORE
[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”11171″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_column_text][/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Outtalectuals is now in its 10th year since conception and the title Liminal Lore alludes to bringing the old world into the new decade. The label prides itself in being an outlet for like minded producers who like to create tracks enthused with culture. It isn’t easy to define such a label, but you’ll find explorations in Afrocentric, Latin, north African and folk music merged into newer music styles. Blind Men And The Elephant is a gorgeous example of how such a fusion can sound when in the hands of an impassioned collaboration. [/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Forest Drive West’s releases tend to fall into the timeless masterpiece category. The East London based maths teacher has a knack for creating a constant rhythm that seamlessly builds into a lovable composition. This entire EP shows off his ability with poise and style. The closing track, Scorpion featuring Lucky Pereira, gently entrances whilst incorporating industrial ambience that creeps in from the desolate, misty suburbs. BAKONGO – THIRTEEN / COWBELL
[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][vc_column_text][/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Pure percussive rhythm rolls through this two track release which continually vibes whilst gifting the occasional warble of warmth with selectively placed basslines. On the verge of experimental and fully intriguing, the London based creator shows immense skill in minimal production. Which ought to come as no surprise as Bakongo is the pseudonym of Roska who is known as an accomplished UK producer across multiple genres including house and bass music. [/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]This cleverly produced EP almost sits in a genre of its own. At an attempt, the title of artistic, minimal post drum and bass step, leads us to what we are dealing with. Dark, gritty and laden with the type of growls that you would enjoy on a tear out DnB track, yet mature and restrained with carefully chosen ambience to enhance the listen. The Hungary based producer is known for enjoying life at 170bpm but has previously shown how adept he is with his electronic offerings. Out on Well Street. HUDSON MOHAWKE – HUDSON’S HEETERS VOLUME 1
[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”11132″ img_size=”full”][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_column_text][/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]During the height of the pandemic, Hudson Mohawke delighted many of us by digging back into the archives to release three albums of some much revered pieces. BBHE, Poom Gems and Airborne Lard were joyous albums that sounded as fresh as if they were just made and served as a reminder of just how forward HudMo’s production is. So with a re-release of Hudson’s Heeters Volume 1 dropping on vinyl, there is the opportunity to pick up a record that has proven it will stand the test of time. Blemish spent 2020 reviewing Bass music releases by picking a highlight each week. His video reviews carried much needed uplifting messages which was a precursor to him playing a Bass heavy guest mix during the Heartless Crew’s show on BBC 1Xtra as a feel good set during the first lockdown. In addition, Blemish hosted some well watched interviews with future thinking producers such as DJ Eggs Legs, Kamran and turntablist Kypski. Blemish is excited about joining the UKBM team and endeavours to highlight new Bass releases to watch out for in a new feature, The Bass Drop.
