Following releases on Dispatch Recordings, Skankandbass and Invisible Recordings, Cruk makes his way on to Kasra’s Critical Music label for his EP in their notorious digital only Binary series.
The EP opens with the mighty ‘Cold Top’. The track starts with a dark intro composed of spooky atmospherics and sinister spoken words before then leading into a heavy drop with its deep, tearing bass and sharp rolling percussion. A certified speaker shaker.
The second track, ‘Devil and the Deep’, follows in the footsteps of the first track with its dark tone, but takes a different turn with its more funkier, swung groove in combination with more wobbly basslines which add to the overall funky groove.
For the third track, Cruk takes more of a minimal approach with ‘Undoing’. This track rolls with its smoother sub frequency bass along with its techy stab fx creating a subtle, but moody minimal roller.
The EP then concludes with ‘Lit’. For the EP closer, Cruk throws a complete curveball by switching up the style with some wonky halftime. This track slams with its scattered, loose percussion groove along with vocal cuts and FX. Cruk’s unique take on the currently popular ‘beats’ trend!
Overall, I feel this EP really shows the world what Cruk is capable of and shows that he is going to be a future big name in the Drum & Bass scene.
