The Bass Drop – Early July

We take a look at 5 of our favourite releases from the start of July featuring Perception, El-B, Murder He Wrote, DJ Swagger and more

Summer is in full swing, no doubt about it.

As the heatwave continues, we match the temperature with our five favourite releases from the first half of July.

DJ SWAGGER – MINOR MAJOR GRAND SCHEMES
dj-swagger-ukbm

DJ Swagger has been a firm favourite at UKBM for years and he’s now released what’s probably his most accomplished work to date. The Germany-based artist’s second full-length album Minor Major Grand Schemes provides a stupendously produced and perfectly presented cross-section of his varied and killer sound, touching on UK Garage, Techno, Breakbeat, Trap, as well as higher tempos. Listen / Buy.

V.A – ENDZ EP

Although technically released in the latter half of June, there’s no way we weren’t going to squeeze this one in. After their debut release from Thunderkatz earlier this year, London-based label Underground Status unleash what might be the best 4-track UKG various artists EP of 2022 so far, featuring the very best names in Perception, Skyjoose, El-B & Opus1st. Buy/listen.

MURDER HE WROTE – FUTURE / SAY

Another firm favourite here at UKBM, Manchester-based Murder He Wrote brings his UK Funky-inspired sound to Jamz Supernova’s label Future Bounce with two-tracker Future / Say. Here we see him effortlessly twisting elements of UK Garage and various strains of UK club music into his own signature style to create something absolutely deadly. Buy/listen.

JERMAINE SOUL & UTELKA – SIGNS

Defrostatica Records continue their fine form in 2022 with a brand new release from Leeds-born, Birmingham-based Jermaine Soul and his track Signs alongside vocalist Utleka. Deep, ethereal, meditative, breaksy, all adjectives apply here with force and all complemented with incredible vocals. Also comes with an incredible out-and-out D&B rework from Ticklish & mak9k. Listen / Buy.

V.A – THE MIDNIGHT SOCIETY VOL. 1
ukbm

UK-based label Badlands introduce themselves onto the scene with their debut release, a 6 track V.A EP entitled The Midnight Society Vol. 1 (Are You Afraid Of The Dark vibes much?). Ranging from dark tribal techno to shattering breaks-heavy jungle and featuring artists such as THUGWIDOW & Krotone, this is a debut to take notice of and makes Badlands an imprint to watch out for. Buy/listen.
