There is a special league reserved for certain types of producers, producers who are true pioneers of a sound. Producers who’ve carved their own sonic personality in the world of music and in turn give birth to a whole new movement. There is no doubt that Basic Channel are within this league

Basic Channel is made up of Moritz Von Oswald and Mark Ernestus who formed in early 90’s Berlin. Inspired by the new found freedom given to them by the fall of the Berlin wall, they forged a new sound within Techno which would go on to inform the next generations of producers, DJ’s and electronic music fans; Dub Techno

Dub Techno is a fusion of classic minimal Techno and old Jamaican Dub sounds and techniques like reverb and delay and usually with bigger driving basslines. Think Ben Klock meets Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry

From all the Basic Channel records though my favourite is Phylyps Trak II/II. With it’s irresistible, ‘head nod’ inducing bassline and hypnotising dub sounds are perfect. Enjoy!
