After years of success, DUKU – the brains behind Brighton dubstep institution The Mine launches new label DNO Records. A home for international talents who refuse to be confined by genre or tempo.
First up on the label comes Russian producer Kercha and his Broken Illusions EP, featuring 3 tracks which alter in style, beautifully showcasing his versatility, but are all still very much linked by the influence of his geographical surroundings and love of bass.
First track Eagle is laden with gorgeous Middle-Eastern sonics all layered over and complimented by a huge, deep sub-line which would rumble any establishment it is played in. Next up, Frozen has a more traditional Dubstep feel to it with it’s oily, oscillating mid’s and bassline but offers something fresh with the occasional flair of breakbeats and use of electro inspired kicks and snares.
The whole EP is rounded off by title-track Broken Illusions, this writer’s percy. A wonderful piece of music which carries an immensely cinematic feel whilst still being easily translatable between headphones and dancefloor. TIP!
