Spotlight: CITY1’s new release on DNO Records

Having had a number of success releases on label’s like Gourmet Beats and Subaltern, it seems there’s no stopping innovative and hard working artist, CITY1. His most recent EP – entitled ‘Kiswahili’ – is out now on DNO Records, a label who continue to traverse the globe to highlight rising talents from the international bass community.

Hailing from the Okinawa islands in Japan’s tropical southern tip, CITY1 has ventured onto Toyko and has since joined Goth-Trad’s Back To Chill crew. Exploring a new and ultimately different world to his previous one, CITY1’s ability to combine mystical soul binding sounds with the digital roar of the hyper-modern metropolis is evident on his ‘Kiswahili’ EP.

‘Sifa’ is crafted from an amalgamation of percussive rhythmic layers alongside heavy low-end oscillating bass lines, with the B side ‘Funza’ showcases a more sparse and and atmospheric sound. ‘Vitu’, the 3rd track features middle eastern wails intertwined with a growling and prominent bass line and tribal drum beat.

His love and passion for these two different worlds is clear in this EP, as the way CITY1  chops, changes and arranges his tracks, is reflective of his experiences.
