The Bass Drop – Early May

Here is a selection of 5, thought provoking, must check releases to check out dropping in the first half of May 2021

The onset of May brings us many occasions to look forward to, May day to mark the start of spring, world truffle day and screen-free week from the 3rd.  If you are going to go screen free for a week, you’ll need some good music to listen to.  Fortunately there are some great pieces about to drop that will keep you thoroughly entertained.

HYLU – LATENT VARIABLES (VOL. 1)

A collection of well considered tracks which morph and introduce sounds in isolated appearances.  There’s a sense of mastery and calm in the productions which show a unique ability to skirt around genres and create a satisfying listen.  Check out the amount of ambient samples that creep into Zaf, each with the ability to make the track jump off, yet it remains teasingly restrained.  A great release from the boss of Unit 137Listen / Buy

SOULSPACE – TATTVA BODHA

The Tattva Bodha is a text of Vedanta.  It is the basis of seeking an existence that is not limited to the confines of the body.  Soulspace has designed this album, which is sure to aid with the quest to reach enlightenment, containing wonderfully astral electronic productions.  Listening through the Bengalaru born producers album will transport you away from the noise, through the vortex and leave you in the 11th dimension.  If you’re not quite ready to go so far, dip in and give Bird In Flight a try.  Listen / Buy

DANNY GOLIGER – MEANINGFUL PURSUITS

LA based producer Goliger releases an album which may have its roots set in self help.  The smooth and abstract listen appears to delve into depression, acceptance and living with track names like Reality Now, Counting Flowers and Survivors Guilt.  The producer, drummer and DJ can often be found dropping mixtapes with styles ranging from techno to pop.  Listen / Buy

AMY DABBS – ALLURE

Warm chords sweep under Miami bass shakes and clean drums at speed.  This EP from Amy Dabbs showcases her talent to create profound emotive electronica which would stand well in the company of strong scene contributors like Roska.  As a follow up to her first EP, Girl Like Me, released on Distant Horizons last year, the Berlin based producer now releases on the main label Lobster ThereminListen / Buy

ONAKOM – OBSCURE

This six track creation has the feel of a careful exploration into the unknown regions of space.  Downbeat, intergalactic electronica tests the sound spectrum, playing with, mastering and dominating rhythm whilst laying out a narrative.  Onakom has been scaping sound and creating visuals from Budapest for many years.  He has previously worked with a plethora of great producers, and has now decided to embark on his own journey.  Much to our pleasure Listen / Buy
